The Renault Kwid has been a massive success for the French automaker since it was launched in 2015. Averaging well over 5000 units a month (with a peak of 9795 in June) it looks like Renault's  hopes for the A-segment are finally taking shape. However, not one to sit on its laurels Renault will now launch a more powerful 1.0-litre version of the Kwid on August 22. Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, this car is their answer to the likes of the Alto K10 as well as the Hyundai Eon 1.0-litre.

Firstly, this new 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine (999cc) produces 67bhp and 91Nm of torque with power going to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. This is pretty much on par with the Alto K10 (67bhp/90Nm) as well as the Hyundai Eon 1.0-litre (68bhp/94Nm).  When it was showcased at the 2016 Expo, Renault had also displayed an AMT variant and this AT version will be launched subsequently.

This 1.0-litre Kwid, for now, will be made available only in the top-of-the-line RXT and RXT (O) variants. Standard features include touchscreen infotainment system, 12V power socket, remote keyless entry, front power windows, dual tone dashboard, front fog lamps, body coloured bumpers and passenger side ORVM. The optional variant gets all of this but includes an airbag for the driver.

It carries the same dimensions as its 800cc sibling that includes the SUV like 180mm ground clearance. On the appearance front, there are no major changes apart from some 1.0-litre stickers on the side as well as the C-pillar. It retains the mini SUV like design complete with flared wheel arches signature two-slat grille with chrome Renault logo.

Given that Renault has mostly played by the book with this car, we expect it to be priced Rs 50,000-Rs 60,000 more than the equivalent 800cc variant. The RXT (O) 800cc Kwid is priced at Rs 3.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which means this 1.0-litre RXT (O) Kwid is expected to be priced close to Rs 4.0 lakh.
We will be driving the car today and you can check back here later for our first drive review of the new 1.0-litre Renault Kwid.
