The Renault Kaptur was spied testing in a disguised avatar in India recently, ahead of its launch expected to be this year. As per the images, the upcoming SUV seems to be in its final production stage and will be produced at Renault-Nissan's facility at Oragadam.
Renault Kaptur is available in Brasil and Russia and is different from the Captur sold in Europe. This Kaptur is based on the company's MO platform that underpins the Duster on sale in India. It will also be a five-seater SUV, but is bigger and will be positioned above the Duster as a premium offering. This one features projector headlamps, LED DRLs and large alloy wheels amongst many other features.
This Indian-spec Kaptur's engine options are expected to be the 110bhp 1.5-litre K9K diesel from the Duster and the 1.6-litre petrol unit. Transmission options will include the six-speed manual and automatic gearbox. We expect Renault India to also offer the AWD option in our country.
The upcoming Renault Kaptur will be the latest offering in India for 2017 as a part of the automaker's plan to launch five new models in next five years. While the spyshots don't show any considerable changes in the test mules from the international model, we can expect the carmaker to heavily localise this five-seater premium crossover. This is primarily for a competitive pricing and suit the tastes of Indian buyers.
