Renault has previewed its upcoming compact SUV with the teaser of the Renault Bridger Concept. The concept will make its full debut on 10 March and is expected to hint at a future production model designed with markets such as India in mind.
Based on the teaser images released by Renault, the Bridger Concept features a boxy silhouette with an upright stance and a tailgate mounted spare wheel, suggesting a rugged design direction similar to lifestyle off roaders. The SUV will measure under four metres in length, allowing it to qualify for tax benefits in India while still aiming to offer generous interior space.
The concept is expected to preview a new compact SUV that could sit alongside the Renault Kiger in the brand’s lineup. The upcoming model is likely to be designed and developed in India and could play an important role in Renault’s future strategy for emerging markets.
While technical details have not yet been confirmed, the production version could borrow the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine from the Kiger, which produces around 100hp and is offered with manual and CVT transmission options.
Once revealed, the Bridger based SUV is expected to target buyers looking for a compact lifestyle SUV and could potentially rival models such as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny in the Indian market.
