Renault aims to develop a new small car platform in India

The French car maker Renault seems to intensify its operations in the Indian auto market and its recent comeback in the market speaks testimony for the same. In a bid to increase its visibility and make best use of the rapidly growing Indian market, the car maker is making every possible effort to satisfy the needs of Indian buyers.

It appears that Renault has decided to work on the lines of its rivals like Hyundai, Toyota, Suzuki and Honda by carving out a completely new car platform exclusively for India. As a matter of fact, the world's high-potential market has, over a period of time, seen car makers thronging like never before.

According to reports, Carlos Tavares, Global Chief Operating Officer of Renault, said that the company was considering "all options" to make it big with the India-oriented plans. He was quoted as saying, "India is one of the key markets for us along with Brazil and Russia."

The company has returned to the Indian market with its first small car Pulse. It is built on the V-platform being used by the Japanese partner Nissan for its small car Micra. "It could happen that we develop a new platform for this market. All possibilities are open," added Tavares.

For Renault, it is quite important to offer a vehicle that befits India in every way and satiates its specific requirements, in order to carve a niche for itself. Some of the models that are developed particularly for the Indian market include Toyota's Etios sedan and Liva hatchback, Honda's Brio and Hyundai's Eon. Suzuki's Indian subsidiary Maruti is also expected to come out with such a car next year.

Thus, it is important to note that Pulse will be the third car offered by the company. However, realising that it has been inspired by Nissan Micra in terms of style, looks and assembly, Renault would have to be extra cautious as success is still at bay for Micra.
