Introduction
The much awaited Hyundai Elite i20 facelift has been launched in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 5.35 lakhs. Changes ae limited to cosmetic upgrades, while mechanically it continues to be powered by existing engine options. Over next few months, Hyundai might also introduce continuously variable transmission (CVT) transmission in the 1.2-litre petrol engine option. The top spec petrol and diesel version now gets six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounting points, ABS with EBD, sliding front arm rest as well as rear arm rest with cup holders.
What’s good about it?
Visual upgrades in form of new grille and redesigned bumpers with new fog lamp inserts, black inserts and air dams. The new hatchback gets a new five-spoke designed alloy wheels and new LED tail lamps. Overall, the new model gets a refreshed appeal which will keep the potential customers interested in the product.
As for the interior, the new model does not get major upgrades and is limited to minor changes in form of red and orange accents, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and revised air-cons. Under the hood, the petrol version continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre engine which generates 82bhp and 115Nm of torque, the 1.4-litre diesel motor is significantly more powerful with a power output of 89bhp and 220Nm of torque. The diesel variant gets a six-speed manual, while the petrol version comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
What’s bad about it?
The new Elite i20 is yet to offer a CVT transmission option. The company might introduce a new CVT option over the next few months. The car once again misses on average fuel economy reading and distance to empty reading. Moreover, the top-spec Elite i20 is slightly an expensive affair at 9.15 lakhs as compared to the top-spec variant of its direct rival, the Baleno which is priced at Rs 8.5 lakhs.
The best variant to buy
We would recommend the Asta variant as it comes with all the modern day convenience and safety equipments. As for buyers who are on a tight budget and would like to settle with modest features list, you have the Sportz variant.
