      Introduction

      American car manufacturer, Ford, has just launched the Freestyle cross hatchback in India for an attractive starting price of Rs 5.09 lakhs. The company’s latest product offering is available in four variants - Ambient, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. All the trims are available in petrol and diesel engine options. The Freestyle is a beefier iteration of the Figo, which gets a muscular design, more features and a new petrol engine.

      What’s good about it?

      The Freestyle is clearly a good looking car with a distinctive appeal over the Figo hatchback. The car gets a stylish new bumper and body cladding which makes it visually appealing. The cross hatchback sits on 15-inch alloy wheels and has an impressive ground clearance of 190mm. Its SUV-like traits is evident through its silver roof rails and silver skid plates. Safety features like dual front airbags with ABS and EBD is standard, while the top spec model offers six airbags, anti-rollover prevention system, HLA (Hill launch assist), ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and TCS (Traction Control System). Interestingly, it also offers an important distance to empty feature.

      What’s bad about it?

      Although the Freestyle is competitively priced, it misses out on a few convenience features like the projector headlamps, LED DRLs and the automatic transmission option. The rear seat misses out on the door pockets, ac vents and charging points even in the top spec variant.

      The best variant to buy

      The top-spec Titanium+ variant of the Freestyle is a good option as it offers emergency assistance, side and curtain airbags, automatic headlamp, rain sensing wiper and the Ford MyKey. Additionally, the infotainment system offers Sync3 with voice control and mobile connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Further adding to the feature list, it also gets the steering wheel mounted controls with audio + phone and the glove box light.

      Quick facts

      Ford Freestyle is the first product from the company to get the new 1.2-litre Dragon series naturally-aspirated petrol engine which generates 94bhp of power and 120Nm of torque. Compared to the older 1.2-litre engine on the Figo, the new petrol generates an additional 7bhp of power and 8Nm of torque. The cross hatchback offers an impressive ground clearance of 190mm, which is about 10mm lesser than the EcoSport!
