The Range Rover Velar is going to be launched in India in November. This was revealed by Rohit Suri, MD, Jaguar Land Rover India in an interview with ET Auto.

Positioned between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, the Velar will be sold as a completely built unit (CBU).  It will be one of 10 new models that JLR plans to launch here this year. The Velar is based on Jaguar land Rover’s new iQ-AI platform, and has been styled to look like a downsized version of the Range Rover. It is offered with multiple engine options ranging from a 237bhp four-cylinder Ingenium petrol right up to a 385bhp supercharged V6.  All the engines are offered with an eight-speed ZF gearbox, with power going to all-four wheels through torque-on-demand systems.

The Velar will compete against the likes of the Porsche Macan and Jaguar F-Pace, both of which have been enjoying a good demand in the Indian market. The Range Rover Velar will be positioned in a niche segment, priced in the range of Rs 80 lakh. While this price bracket also has full-size seven-seater SUVs like the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS, the Velar targets those set of buyers who prefer something compact and more practical in an urban environment.
