Land Rover is busy working on a minor facelift for the second-gen Range Rover Sport, as seen in these spy shots taken at the infamous Nurburgring circuit in Germany. This sporty derivative of the regular Range Rover has been around for years now and has already seen some minor upgrades, including the ludicrously fast SVR version.

The spy pictures of the half-camouflaged prototype have revealed quite a bit about the new car. The mid-cycle facelift focuses mainly on the front-end in order to make the SUV appear sportier still. The new design language includes a couple of vertical air intakes to the side of the bumper and a grille that looks like a frowning face.

The mesh of the upper grille has been changed while the clamshell hood now has a recessed area in the middle - a first for any Range Rover. Changes are a little less obvious at the rear, but it might be too early to tell.

The engine range for the Range Rover Sport is likely to be carried over with emissions and fuel consumption tweaks. The facelifted Range Rover Sport is expected to be launched globally by the end of this year as a 2017 Model Year vehicle. It will compete with other super-fast SUVs like the Audi SQ7 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
