      Production of Maruti Suzuki increased 31 per cent in July 2013

      Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country’s largest passenger car maker, has officially announced that its production increased by 31.07 per cent in the month of July 2013, amounting to 99,236 units. The comparison has been made with the production figures of previous year's corresponding period, which stood at 75,709 units. Interestingly, the auto maker produced 43,313 units in the mini compact segment, which includes models like Alto, A-Star and WagonR, with an increase of 19.15 per cent under the review of 36,349 units produced in the same tenure last year.

      Following the pattern of growth, the production in compact segment, comprising Swift, Ritz and Estilo, went up by 56.46 per cent, amounting to 20,621 units as against 13,179 units manufactured in the year-ago period. Considering the situation of sedan segment, which includes models like Swift DZire and SX4, Maruti Suzuki manufactured 21,613 units as against 11,590 units rolled out in the previous year. However, in utility vehicle segment, the company produced 5,657 units Gypsy and Ertiga during the period as against 7,343 units an year earlier. On the other hand, the production of Eeco and Omni van stood at 8,032 units in July 2013, marking a growth when compared with 7,248 units manufactured in the same month of 2012.

      It must be noted that as the auto maker increased its production, its overall sales also registered an increase of 1.3 per cent in July 2013, amounting to 83,299 units as against 82,234 units sold in the year-ago period. During the period, the demand for Maruti Suzuki cars increased by 5.8 per cent to 75,145 units in the domestic market, when compared with 71,024 units delivered in July last year. Industry experts are of a view that Maruti Suzuki has performed well of late as the Indian auto market has been witnessing a prolonged slump as the month of June reported the eighth monthly sales decline in a row. Reportedly, it is a record time since the auto industry lobby, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has started collating the data in 1997-1998.
