Indian carmaker Tata Motors has faced strong criticism in the past stating age-old looks that have been carried on the newer varinats as well. But things are about to be changed in a better way owing to 39-year old Pratap Bose, design head for Tata Motors who shall be working on designs and introducing innovative features in the Zest sedan and Bolt hatchback.
Bose reminiscing the first time he saw Tata Indica said, “It was aquamarine blue with Grey bumpers. For me, it came from another planet.” The year was 1998, when the Indica from Tata Motors created hype in the market as a never seen before hatchback. Back then Bose was aged 22 and had just graduated from National Institute of Design (NID) and was preparing for his term with Piaggio in Italy.
Now after years of experience behind his back Pratap Bose now heads the design department for Tata Motors. He has been given the responsibility to enhance the looks and bring in better features for Tata's game changers Zest and Bolt. Speaking more on his decision to join Tata Motors, Bose said, “It was a modern, indigenous product. I saw the car and thought to myself, it must be a fantastic company to work with.”
Recalling an incident during a presentation to chairman of Bombay house where Mr. Ratan Tata was present, Bose said, “At the end of the day, Mr Tata said, 'Most of the things you said in the presentation, I disagree with, but I think it is a good point of view, Would you like to work with us at TMETC (Tata Motors European Technical Centre)?"
Tata Zest has just been launched in the country last week and the Bolt hatchback is due for launch sometime soon. Moreover, with the the recent development initiatives by Tata Motors in terms of after sales support, the company is expecting a good future ahead.
