Porsche has successfully tested its new four-door electric sports car, the Mission E. Codenamed J1, the vehicle will be launched sometime in 2020. The concept was first revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Media reports indicate that the Porsche research and development boss Michael Steiner has confirmed that the design work on the model is now complete and very close to the Mission E concept.

The Mission E concept will be powered by two electric motors (one on each axle). With power on all four wheels, it produces 600bhp of power and 900Nm of torque. The company claims that the vehicle is capable of sprinting from 0-100kmph in 3.5 seconds and 0-198kmph in under 12 seconds. The vehicle is expected to get an 800V rapid-charging system which is capable of charging 80 per cent in just 15 minutes and will have a range of 500kms. The performance figures are impressive given the fact that the vehicle’s kerb weight is over two ton.

The company will manufacturer the new model at the Zuffenhausen centre and they plan to sell around 20,000 Mission ES. Porsche has also revealed that the upcoming vehicle will offer different power outputs. One might be a high performance version while the other might be a lower-powered one. Reports also indicate that the new model might be introduced before the hybrid 911.
