Porsche has told reporters that they may drop diesel engines from their portfolio by the end of this decade. The company admitted that the Dieselgate scam has prompted the company to look at other viable options. Sources add that Porsche’s diesel versions make up close to 15 per cent of the brand’s sales globally.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume, said, "Of course we are looking into this. We have not made a decision on it yet. For the generations that will follow there are different scenarios." It is obvious that the brand is expected to plug the void created in the range by the absence of the diesel variants (should Porsche drop them), with various hybrid and electric power-plant options in the near future.

Porsche stated it was the Cayenne SUV that was the first Porsche to be powered by a diesel motor in the year 2009. In fact, the new Porsche Cayenne is slated to debut in the coming weeks, but the brand reiterated that this time around, the diesel Cayenne will be joined in the line-up by a hybrid version. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is expected to run on the same powertrain that is used in the Panamera hybrid.
