      Porsche makes Volkswagen Group as the official importer of its cars in India

      Porsche, the German car maker has appointed Volkswagen Group as the official importer of its cars in India. The company has taken this decision as it anticipates good response for its cars in the country, in the near future. A total of 1,052 units of cars have been sold by the Zuffenhausen-based manufacturer, since 2004. Out of total vehicles sold in the country, 85 percent comprised Cayenne SUV models.

      Anil Reddi, head of Porsche division at Volkswagen Group Sales India, said, “Building on the growing success of Porsche in India isn’t a challenge; it’s something we are looking forward to embracing with pride. The India clientele expect a lot from their vehicles, and they will find Porsche not only meets, but exceeds their expectations. I am confident that with our dedicated professional team, we will take Porsche’s presence in India to the next level.”

      As per the tie-up, the company will introduce the new-generation 911 Carrera and Panamera Diesel in India. The rear-wheel drive 911 has the capacity to generate power output of 352 hp and churn torque of 390 Nm at 5600 rpm. As per reports, the car will carry a price tag of Rs. 96.97 lacs (Ex-showroom Delhi)

      However, the Panamera Diesel is capable of generating power of 251 hp at 3800-4400 rpm and peak torque of 550 Nm at 1750-2750 rpm. It can attain highest speed mark of 242 kmph, which is quite impressive.

      Managing director of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, George Willis, commented, “With this new agreement, we are looking forward to exploring the opportunities across India even further. Development of emerging markets is clearly important for Porsche’s future, and we are confident sales in the sub-continent will continue to grow in the coming years, especially with new Porsche models being introduced.”

      As Volkswagen Group has been appointed as the sole importer, Porsche in India is looking forward to increase its dealerships in the country and make improvement in the field of distribution. The company also has much expectation from the Macan SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in 2013.
