SUVs have taken the centre stage for sure. Admit it, how many of us expected the sales of Porsche’s iconic 911 to be dwarfed by an SUV? Yes, the Macan is currently Porsche’s best-selling model.

Porsche could be developing a sub-Macan crossover

Porsche proudly added that the Macan sold more than 80,000 cars around the world in 2015, while the Cayenne sold 73,100 units in the same period. The combined effort of both models saw the car maker register a sales of more than 200,000 cars in 2015, a first for the brand.

Naturally, Porsche doesn’t want to sit on its laurels, and is now reported to be developing a sub-Macan crossover which could be called the ‘Majun’. Sources suggest that this model could share a lot of engineering bits with either VW’s electric crossover, or Audi’s Q4 (that’s been delayed by dieselgate).

Porsche’s sub-Macan crossover project should take some time to materialise if approved, since Porsche is already known to be currently working on the all-new Cayenne, the Mission E concept, a facelifted 911 GT3, and Panamera’s wagon and coupe versions.
