German luxury carmaker Porsche is looking to upgrade its grand sized sedan, the Panamera. On sale for quite a while now, the four-seater model is due for a major upgrade and is likely to arrive in its rejuvenated avatar at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October.

At present, the new Panamera is being put through its paces, this time at the Nurburgring race track in Germany. Among many new significant upgrades, what’s certain is that Porsche will make use of the VW Group’s MSB platform (modular standard architecture) that will not only make the new Panamera more rigid but also noticeably lighter.

The new Panamera will get significant upgrades in terms of mechanicals, with new engine and gearbox options. Porsche could even introduce a new 3-litre, twin-turbo, V6 engine to replace the naturally aspirated V8 unit powering the 4S model. We will have to wait until end-2016 for full details on this Aston Martin Rapide-rivalling luxury model
