Porsche imports the 718 Cayman to India for homologation

Porsche had started the production of the new 718 Cayman at their Stuttgart facility a few months ago. Now, the automaker's Indian counterpart has imported a single unit of the sports car to our country for homologation.

The updated 718 Cayman was first unveiled at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show revealing the cosmetic changes. These tweaks might not be revolutionary, but bring in a fresh avatar in comparison to its predecessor. And now this new car is also a part of the entry level '718' range, which includes the 718 Boxster as well. This car had premiered at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

Now for the interesting bit. The mid-engined sports car gets a new four-cylinder turbo petrol mill. This 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine produces 300bhp of power. And it’s not only more powerful than the earlier flat six engines, but also more fuel efficient. On the other hand, the 718 Cayman S gets a 2.5-litre version of the same unit and churns out 350bhp of power. Transmission options include the seven-speed PDK gearbox or a six-speed manual. The Porsche Cayman S with the PDK and sport chrono package does the 0-100kmph sprint in just 4 seconds and achieves a top speed of 283kmph.

The new Porsche 718 Cayman's deliveries in the European market were scheduled for this month. As for the Indian customers, the wait doesn't seem to be long as the carmaker's Indian counterpart has already listed the new Cayman's models on the Indian website.
