      Skoda has been trying its best to maintain a hold on the ever-growing Indian market with its new launches and revamped version of older successful cars. The new Skoda Rapid that comes with a few tweaks and changes in appearance and transmission will take on the veteran of sedans, Honda City. Today, we’ll be comparing the petrol variants of both the cars on various grounds.

      All new Rapid by Skoda comes equipped with a 1.6 L MPI petrol engine that is capable of producing 103.5 bhp of power and 153 Nm of torque. In order to transmit the produced output, the car is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The veteran, Honda City, is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns out a maximum torque of 99 bhp and 200 Nm and is fitted with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The automatic Honda City is one of the most fuel-efficient automatic petrol cars in the country with an ARAI certified mileage of 18 kmpl, while the new Skoda Rapid petrol automatic comes with a fuel efficiency of 14.3 kmpl.

      City is taller and longer with a length of 4440 mm, width of 1695 mm and a height of 1495 mm compared to the new Skoda Rapid’s length of 4386 mm, width of 1699 mm and a height of 1466 mm. City has a larger wheelbase and boot space of 2600 mm and 510 litres compared to that of Skoda Rapid’s 2552 mm and 460 litres, respectively. The Czech auto maker is known for its premium quality and luxury features, and Rapid lives up to the expectations. The car comes in an all-black package that includes black headlamps, black allow wheels, rooftop, grille and even all-black outer rear view mirrors. The Honda City features many premium features too, which include USB, Aux-in, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and engine start/stop push button. The Honda City is a better car for in-city driveability, thanks to its rev friendly engine and very responsive steering wheel, but lags when compared to the Skoda Rapid on the highways.
