According to the latest official statement from Volkwagen, the company is firming its plans to launch Beetle in India soon. "It is an iconic brand and people know more about the car than Volkswagen. It will be brought to Indian as a completely built unit," Volkswagen India Director (Passenger car), Neeraj Garg said. The exact launch date of the car has not been revealed so far but the car will be imported as a completely built unit from its plant in Germany.
Launch of Beetle in India is part of the brand building strategy of Volkswagen in India. It will compete with Fiat 500 in India and will be priced around Rs. 15 lakh and above. Currently VW imports its SUV Touareg in India as a CBU. It manufactures its sedan VW Jetta and Passat at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. It has also recently inaugurated its new plant in Pune where it will manufacture its small hatchback model Polo.
VW also intends to expand its dealer network in India. It currently has 22 dealers across the country which will be increased to 40 by the end of this year.
