Talks between Tata Motors Chairman, Ratan Tata and West Bengal State government have been delayed for atleast a month now. Everyone had been waiting for the talks between West Bengal state government and Tata Motors but the talks “deferred for some unavoidable reasons,” said West Bengal Chief Secretary, Amit Kiran Deb. “We hope the meeting will be held in October,” he added.

The West Bengal officials declined to elaborate the reasons for the delay neither did they give any confirmed dates for future talks. The Marxists government of West Bengal had announced that it shall meet Ratan Tata on Sunday to discuss the future of Nano project in the state. However, it seems that the last ditched effort from the State government has fallen apart.

Tata began moving its machinery from its almost complete manufacturing unit in Singur since last Friday. Production at Singur manufacturing plant has halted since past one month amidst strong protests from the farmers led by Opposition party, Trinamool Congress. The Opposition has refused the 70 acres of land being handed over by the state government and have continued their protests for the demand of 400 acres of land.

Tata Motors, on the other hand, has been finding it tough to keep up with the schedule to roll out world’s cheapest car around the festival season. Thus, in order to manage the production on time, it has started moving its machinery to its plant in Pantnagar in Uttrakhand. It has promised to roll out Tata Nano in the last quarter of the current calendar year.
