Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker, is doing final preparations for the launch of much-awaited Bolt hatchback. The vehicle is likely to go on sale in early next year, and all the details about the car have been revealed by the company. It was speculated that the new model would be offered with automated manual transmission, but reports suggest that the Bolt hatchback would only come in manual version. It is expected that Tata Motors will later launch the AMT-equipped Bolt.

The Tata Bolt hatchback will be offered in two engine options- a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and the 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel unit. The former also powers the Zest sedan and is capable of producing a top power output of 89bhp and a peak torque of 140Nm, while the diesel engine is good for 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both engines are coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox which sends the power to front wheels of the cars. The Tata Bolt hatchback will rival against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and Ford Figo.

Tata Motors earlier launched the AMT-equipped Zest compact sedan, which is also the country’s first diesel car to feature an automated manual transmission. The vehicle has received an overwhelming response from buyers. Now, the company is also contemplating the petrol AMT variant of the Zest compact sedan. Adding to it, Tata Motors is also aiming to launch Nano AMT, new hatchback and sub-4 metre sedan (Project: Kite), and powerful Safari Storme facelift.
