Nissan introduced its new small car in the Indian market last month and the car’s success story seems to be quite evident as Nissan has already stepped up the production of the car at its Chennai plant. The company has a backlog of 2500 units currently and has doubled up its production to 500 units per day in order to clear the backlog. "In order to cater to the huge demand, we have begun second shift of production... The average daily production is over 500 units, which is expected to increase in near term," said Nissan India spokesperson. "We have a progressively increasing order book and so far received more than 3,400 bookings. Last month we achieved sales of 928 units since delivery began on July 15," the official added.

Nissan Micra is priced at Rs. 3.98 lakh to Rs. 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and features Ranbir Kapoor as its brand ambassador. The company will also commence export shipments of the car from next month to European markets. Nissan intends to export the model to over 100 countries - only 20 percent of its production will be sold in the domestic market and rest will be exported. Nissan plans to have nine models in its product portfolio in India by 2012.
