      Nissan to test drive its driverless vehicle in London next month

      In efforts to strengthen its position against its competitors, Nissan has announced its plans to introduce driverless cars in London. The technology will be showcased in a modified Nissan Leaf and coincidentally, it will also be the first time when Nissan  unveils the autonomous drive technology on public roads in Europe.

      Government officials, safety and technical experts will get a chance to try out the modified Leaf. A driver will be present in the vehicle at all times and it will not be open to public. The company claims that the vehicle has overcome the shortcomings in the autonomous technology. Though in the initial stages for now, the system will not be offered in vehicles at least till 2020. Apart from Nissan, reports indicate that Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover will also be testing their vehicles this year.

      The technology named “Seamless Autonomous Mobility” (SAM) us currently under development in collaboration with NASA and uses artificial intelligence along with 'human support' in order to help autonomous vehicles make effective decisions in unpredictable situations. More details about the technology in Nissan Leaf will be known in the coming days.
