After the success of the Terrano, Nissan is diverting its attention towards building more SUVs for the India car market. The X-Trail will be one of the first SUVs to come to India under the Nissan badge. The new-generation X-Trail will be a seven-seater SUV that will be powered by a new 1.6-litre dCi engine. This is a four-cylinder engine and the three-cylinder version is likely to be used for other Nissan products in the near future.

The X-Trail is even available as a five-seater internationally, but it won’t be launched here. The Qashqai also shares the same platform with the X-Trail and this is another SUV that will be making its way into India as well. We aren’t certain if the Qashqai will be making its way at the Auto Expo.

The Nissan X-Trail and the Qashqai are built on the CMF C-D platform, and these are likely to be assembled in India. They will have high levels of localisation and this will help Nissan to make these products a lot more affordable. Renault too has plans to introduce a new range of SUVs that will be based on the same platform. The CMF A platform is already launched in India and the Renault Kwid is the first product that is based on it.
