After Tata Motors, Nissan Motors has received the green signal for building electric cars in Britain. Britain’s previous Labour government had pledged a grant for building eco-friendly cars. Current British Prime Minister David Cameron stated that government has now cleared the grant for Japanese auto maker to build electric cars in Northern England. ‘That money will be going ahead, that investment will be going in,’ he told MPs during question time.

Nissan intends to build its zero emission model Leaf for the British market at its Sunderland plant by 2013. The plant will make Britain as the third global production site for eco-friendly vehicles.

Last week Cameron had told the MPs that although his government supported eco-friendly cars, it hesitated to go ahead with the plans as the government struggles internally to manage country’s budget deficit.
