Modern compact crossovers have been ruling the sales charts since their introduction in India back in 2012. Launched in 2013, the Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster’s twin, has been the mainstay of Nissan’s India line-up. The Terrano has received yet another update in 2017 to bring it at par with the competition. For the kind of money the Terrano demands, there are quite a few other options available as well. Here is a rundown on what else can you buy for the price of the Nissan Terrano.
At Rs 9.99 lakh and you get both the base petrol and base diesel trims of the Nissan Terrano. Being base trims, it gets the bare necessities – power steering, power windows and manual air conditioning. But at this price, you have the option of buying a decently loaded C-Segment sedan. The Maruti Ciaz top-spec diesel or the ZXi petrol automatic will cost you lesser than a Terrano. You can get the Honda City petrol S-trim, Skoda Rapid base diesel or VW Vento highline petrol.
Next on the block is the Nissan Terrano XL(O) diesel at Rs 12.54 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. For this money, you can get most of the top-spec C-segment sedans and along with them the sub-four metre SUVs as well. The sub-four metre SUVs are in the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 11 lakh bracket, ex-showroom. While they will save you a couple of lakhs, the interior space, boot space, rode quality and handling dynamics of the Terrano will be unmatched.
For the price of the top-spec manual which is priced over Rs 14 lakh, you can get yourself SUVs like the Mahindra Scorpio or the evergreen Tata Safari Storme. If you need to haul seven, you can opt for the XUV 500 or the Hexa. Amongst the compact crossovers, the Renault Duster will give you the top-spec diesel AMT at this price. You can also buy the top-spec diesel Creta and we all know why the Hyundai is the best in this segment. You could opt for the underdog, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross with the 120 bhp 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine.
Finally, for the top-spec Nissan Terrano AMT, the price tag goes perilously close to Rs 15 lakh. For this price, you get a decently loaded Hyundai Elantra, the entry-level VW Jetta or the Chevrolet Cruze. These entry-level D-segment sedans are aspirational for sure, but then, with the new equipment, the Terrano wins the race.
