With its upcoming Terrano model, Nissan will be taking the compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment by storm. This car, unveiled in August, has generated a lot of buzz owing to its powerful engine and masculine appearance. Nissan has been actively promoting its car through various advertising campaigns on social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter in order to target mass audiences. It has also launched a dedicated website of Terrano wherein all the details regarding the car are available. Also to mention, the pre-booking procedure had already started way before the scheduled launch to generate the interest among Indian consumers. On its availability in India, rumours are circulating that car will be launched on 9th of October but as of now company has not confirmed any particular date. Sources close to this development cite that Nissan will be banking on the upcoming festive season wherein the sales of new vehicles generally see a spurt as compared to older models.

The Japanese auto maker has officially revealed all the details about Terrano and as told, the car will be offered in petrol and diesel fuel options. The petrol variant of Terrano shall be equipped with a 1.6-litre MPFI engine that would produce 102 bhp of power and 145 Nm of torque. In case of the diesel variant, Nissan Terrano would be powered by a 1.5-litre K9K DCi engine that would be offered in different trim levels having power outputs of 83 bhp and 108 bhp. As far as the variants are concerned, Nissan Terrano will be offered in XE, XL, XL (Plus), XV and XV (Premium). Both petrol and diesel versions of this compact SUV shall be equipped with 5-speed manual transmission system whereas the availability of automatic one is highly doubted as of now. The 6 different colours of Terrano would comprise pearl white, blade silver, sapphire black, sterling grey, bronze grey and fire red.

On closely examining the looks of Nissan Terrano, it seems to be borrowed from its sibling Renault Duster. However, the company has effectively managed to design Terrano distinctively from its sibling Duster owing to its restyled tail gate and aggressive front fascia. The car of Nissan bears a more conventional look of the SUV's as compared to its counterparts. As far as features are concerned, the top-specification variant of Terrano will be equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). However, the absence of steering mounted audio controls and touchscreen audio system might prove to be a deterrent. Also, it is being said that Nissan is planning to launch a 4WD version of Terrano in the coming months.

In terms of price, Nissan is yet to publicly announce the details regarding it but it has previously hinted that the car might be placed in the sub-Rs. 10 lakh category. Industry experts are believing that the upcoming compact SUV might be a touch costlier than its sibling Renault Duster, which is offered in a range of Rs. 7.99 lakh to Rs. 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom). Once Nissan Terrano hits the Indian car market, the competition in the compact SUV segment will get all more stiffer as it consists of Renault Duster, Mahindra XUV 500 and Ford EcoSport. Currently, Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport are the segment leaders and now with introduction of Nissan Terrano, the competition might get even stiffer.
