The price of yet-to-be launched automatic version of the Nissan Sunny mid-size sedan has been revealed in the media. As per reports, the upcoming Nissan Sunny AT is to be priced at Rs. 8.92 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai). This vehicle would come fitted with the cutting edge Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system. However, the Japanese manufacturer will make it available only in the XL trim with the petrol engine, but more automatic versions could be in the pipeline.

The petrol power-mill of the Sunny AT produces a maximum power output of 98.4 bhp, along with peak torque output of 134 Nm. As per reports, features in the new vehicle include keyless entry, along with a start-stop button and chrome door handles inside. It is the CVT which will give the Sunny automatic a great opportunity to compete against strong rivals such as Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Honda City, Ford Fiesta, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento. Two automatic variants of Skoda Rapid are priced at Rs. 8.74 lakh and Rs. 9.38 lakh. Similarly, the automatic variant of fluidic Hyundai Verna is available at a price of Rs. 8.88 lakh. Currently, Nissan's strategic partner company Renault already has a CVT version of the Scala. In true terms, the Scala is very similar to the Sunny, with changes only in the exterior.

Nissan Sunny AT is not a completely new vehicle, as it was already being developed for export in the company's Chennai factory since the year 2010. Among the Sunny's versions, its automatic variant is expected to provide a fuel efficiency of 17.97 kmpl, as against 16.95 kmpl.

Nissan Motor India Private Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Japanese major Nissan Motor Company has also planned to launch nine new models by 2016, which would include a CVT version of the hatchback Micra. With such interesting vehicles, Nissan seems all set to conquer a decent share of the Indian automotive market.
