Japanese car maker, Nissan is working hard to gain more market share in the growing Indian auto industry. The company recently updated its top-selling sedan- Sunny, and is preparing new products for the Indian market. Nissan is also contemplating a sub-4 metre sedan and compact SUVs. The mini-SUV will sit below the Terrano SUV, and will rival against the likes of Ford EcoSport and upcoming compact SUVs from Honda, Volkswagen and Mahindra.

If media reports are to be believed, the mini SUV is likely to be based on the Datsun Redigo concept shown at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show in February. This model will be a global product, and will be specifically developed to target mass market. Interestingly, Renault is also working on a mini SUV which will be slotted under the Duster SUV. The sub-4 metre Renault’s SUV is expected to be unveiled next year, while the launch could take place in 2016. If Nissan manages to keep the design of the mini SUV closer to the Redi-Go concept, the vehicle could become a hot seller in its league.

Adding to it, Datsun is also contemplating a compact crossover which will also underpins the same Redi-Go concept. We believe that the mini SUV would be introduced in our market under Nissan badge. Going by the good response for the Terrano SUV, we believe that Nissan could bring this product much before it was planned. Under the hood, it is expected to get the 1.2-litre petrol unit that also powers the Micra hatchback and the 1.5L K9K diesel unit.
