Nissan X-Trail, the luxury sports utility vehicle from Nissan which has been witnessing moderate sales figures in the country for a long time, is now being offered with a discount of Rs 1 lakh. The move has been taken in the view of continuously slowing down sales of the SUV in its highly competitive segment. The significant discount of Rs 1 lakh is offered on all three variants of the car which are currently available in the price range of Rs 22 lakhs to Rs 26.5 lakhs.

At present, the Nissan X-Trail model is imported to the Indian market as a completely built unit (CBU). The vehicle has been cornered by segment leaders like Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V, BMW X1 and Ford Endeavour. The car is also facing competition with the likes of Chevrolet Captiva and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The sales of Nissan X-Trail model dipped to mere 35 units in July 2011, as compared to sales of 1060 units of Toyota’s Fortuner in the same month. The sales figures of BMW’s X1 stood at 484 units during the same month.

Nissan Motors marked its debut in the country's mass volume segment last year with the launch of compact hatchback Micra in the Indian auto market. Micra is the only car produced by the company in the country as all of its other portfolio cars including SUV X-Trail, premium sedan Nissan Teana and sports luxury car 370Z are imported from abroad.
