      Nissan Motor to Help the Japan Earthquake Victims

      Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. has come forward to help improve public access to transportation in the areas affected by the major earthquake and natural catastrophes recently. The MLIT will loan 10 units of its compact commercial vehicle, the NV200 Vanette Taxi, at no cost to many taxi operators in the Tohoku region of Japan. The taxi companies has been assigned for this role by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) .The 'Utilization and demonstration project of new barrier-free vehicles in areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquakes' too is collaborating in this welfare project.

      The project is an endeavour to develop and promote new types of barrier-free vehicles, including the Universal Design Taxi and will be incorporated in natural catastrophe affected areas. "We are proud to support the MLIT project by providing Nissan's NV200 Vanette Taxis," said Nissan Corporate Vice President, Hideto Murakami, who is responsible for the Global LCV Business Unit. "Our hope is that they will be used to help people in the affected area and as we go forward, lead to widespread adoption of the Universal Design Taxi nationwide."

      It should be noted that the NV200 Vanette, which is the base model of the NV200 Vanette Taxi, was chosen in May 2011 as the next-generation taxi for New York City. This model is designed according to the needs of international customers as Nissan’s next-generation compact commercial vehicle.

      Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. has also launched the new Nissan `Sunny', which is a luxury offering for the bourgeois segment in India. The company is also planning to launch its other small cars in the Indian market. “The unveiling of Nissan Sunny reinstates our seriousness on business operations in India. It reiterates that we are as per schedule on our Indian plans including future product launches“, said Nissan Motor India's Managing Director and Chief Executive, Kiminobu Tokuyama.
