      Nissan Micra Next Year in India

      The Japanese car maker Nissan Motors is ready to roll out its small car in India next year. The company stated that its small car project in India is on track and its new small car Nissan Micra or March will hit the Indian roads by early 2010. “Our plans are on track and our first car will be the Micra hatchback. The Micra is known as March in Japan and the India version will be christened either Micra or March,” said Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Nissan Motor India's Managing Director and CEO.

      The company also aims to launch 4 to 5 models in next five years. “We propose to launch four to five models over the next four-five years in the Indian market. Our first car is scheduled for launch by summer 2010,” said Tokuyama.

      The company is setting up a new manufacturing unit in Oragadam near Chennai in association with the French auto maker Renault. The fifty-fifty joint venture company will have an annual capacity of manufacturing nearly 4 lakh cars in India. this facility will not only cater to the domestic but also the overseas demands of models from both the companies.
