The Japan based leading car maker Nissan Motors announced to hike the price of its popular small hatchback Micra by up to Rs 11,170 in the Indian market. The increased prices are applicable with the immediate effect. The company has blamed the rising input material cost for the decision.

In a statement given on Monday, the company said, "The hike will be applicable to both petrol and diesel versions and will be in the range of Rs 2,500 (0.5 per cent) to Rs 11,170 (2 per cent)." At present, the Nissan Micra model is available in both petrol and diesel variants in the price bracket of Rs 4.06 lakh - Rs 4.36 lakh and Rs 5.59 lakh-Rs 6.05 lakh, respectively.

However, the price of company’s imported models including sports utility vehicle X-Trail, luxury sedan Teana and sports car 370Z have been kept unchanged.

Speaking to the reporters on the development, Nissan India Managing Director and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama said, "There has been a steady increase in the input cost over a period of time. It has come to a situation now that the price hike is inevitable and we have decided to increase the price of Micra."
