      Nissan India to recall 9000 units of Sunny and Micra for defective airbag

      Nissan India will recall 9000 units of B segment hatchback Nissan Micra and mid-sized, sedan, Sunny as a part of its global recall exercise. The recall will be done to replace defective airbags in both the vehicles manufactured between 2008 to year 2012. The safety airbags equipped in Sunny and Micra during this period were sourced from Takata.

      Officials at Nissan have confirmed about the recall and have also informed that customers will be notified regarding the recall in coming days. Replacement of driver airbag inflator will be done free of cost at Nissan dealerships.

      On the global front, the company will recall a total of 2,60,000 units. Models from Nissan including Note, March/Micra, Sunny/Almera/Versa, Patrol and Cube will be recalled by the company. Back in 2012, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) started voluntary recall for safety of vehicles. Since last two years, over seven lakh vehicles manufactured produced by various auto giants in India have been recalled. The Government of India is evaluating options of structuring an imperative recall policy under which penalties could be imposed as a part of new Central Motor Vehicle Rules.

      Nissan
