The Japan based leading car maker, Nissan is aggressively working on expanding and strengthening its India operations. A senior official of the company said on Monday that the company is looking forward to tie-up with local partners in the Indian market, which will help the company in further sharpening its competitiveness. According to him, these tie-ups will further help the company in developing cost efficient cars in the country.

While speaking to ET, Chief Executive officer at Nissan Motors, said, "Our partnerships with Indian companies like Ashok Leyland have been extremely successful. It combines our strength of technology and design with their ability to be frugal and this combination will make us more competitive internationally. Nissan's future growth will depend on how we develop solutions, which are affordable to the masses in the emerging markets."

The company is currently in talks with country’s leading two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto to develop a new ultra low cost small car for the Indian market. It has been more than 3 years since the Bajaj and Nissan are negotiating on the matter of developing this ULC car but the talks are yet to reach fruition.

Moreover, the company also has a joint venture with leading commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland. The Ashok Leyland –Nissan partnership has recently launched a 1.25 tonne small commercial vehicle. The joint venture will also roll-out two utility vehicles in the Indian market in coming months.
