      Nissan India aims to register 300 percent increase in sales by FY12

      The Indian unit of Japan based leading car maker Nissan is aiming to register a threefold increased in its sales in the Indian market by the end of this financial year. The company is targeting to sell 40,000 units of its cars in the country in FY12, as compared to 13,000 units sold in the FY11. Out of the 13,030 units sold in FY11, about 12,000 units were of Nissan’s popular hatchback Micra.

      In July 2011, the company managed to sell 1,593 units of its vehicles, registering a 59 percent increase over the units sold in the same month last year.

      The company is planning aggressively to enhance its India portfolio with the launch of a series of new cars in coming years. After rolling out Micra in the country, the company is now all set to launch its mid-size sedan Nissan Sunny in the Indian market in October this year. The car was unveiled in Indian on Wednesday at a small ceremony held in Mumbai.

      Speaking on the company’s future plans in the Indian market, Dinesh Jain, CEO, Hover Automotive India (Nissan’s retailer partner in India) said, "We have built a robust chain of 40 dealerships nationwide in a period of over one year and we are on schedule to open 100 dealerships by end of 2012."

      In a bid to make its manufacturing capacity sufficient for its expanded product portfolio in future, the company is expected to enhance the capacity of Chennai facility to 4,00,000 units.
