Nissan has finally given the green light for the launch of GT-R in India after almost 12 months of waiting. The Japanese car manufacturer is expected to bring the legendary sports car to the showrooms by the end of this year.

The general delay in the launching of the GT-R was mainly due to the challenge being faced by the company to set up a well-maintained infrastructure for the aristocratic four-wheel drive monster car. Also, like most supercars, the engine requires high-octane fuel for optimal performance. Incidentally, there are only four engineers in total across the globe, who are certified to hand-assemble the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 mill.

Guillaume Sicard, the President of Operations in Nissan India said, “It is easy to launch a car, but what’s the point if we cannot offer after-sales support after we sold a car that would cost about Rs 2 crores." Some of the Nissan GT-Rs, which are present in India, are directly imported by the customers. Also, Nissan sends in technicians from Dubai for servicing these models

Nissan is now making a thorough investment to get selected service facilities with the help of trained technicians to extend their services to the GT-R. Mechanics are given four months of intensive training for making them capable for the post to make them qualify for the routine maintenance. The Japanese has finally realised that the Indian market now needs a product that will spearhead the brand halo in the market. Incidentally, Nissan GT-R has the capability to be one of the fastest ‘Point A to B cars’ in the world; better even than the Ferraris and Porsches. It has been ranked as the fifth fastest car in the world with a lap time of 7 minutes and 8 seconds at the Nordschleife circuit in Nurburgring. This car has beaten the Porsche 911 Carrera and Lamborghini Gallardo. The price of this model will be slightly more than Rs 2 crores.
