      Nissan-Ashok Leyland to launch new passenger transport vehicle

       The joint venture of India based leading commercial car maker Ashok Leland and Japanese auto giant Nissan is planning to foray into the passenger vehicle transport segment in coming two years. Nissan Ashok Leyland Technologies Ltd., the joint venture firm that rolled-out a light commercial vehicle in the month of September, now has said that it is developing a new passenger vehicle for the transport segment that will be launched in the country by year 2013-14.

      As per a recent statement given by Mr. V Sumantran, Chairman at Ashok Leyland Technologies, said, the company is looking forward to launch diesel and CNG fuel run passenger segment vehicles and goods light commercial vehicles in the Indian market. Speaking at the occasion of inauguration of company’s 21st dealership in the Indian auto market, He said, "We launched the vehicle in September, 2011. The reaction and response from the market has been very positive. The booking had surpassed 3,000 units."

      The Nissan-Ashok Leyland’s upcoming goods transportation light commercial vehicle will be of 12.5 GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight). It will be having a payload capacity of 5-6.5 tonnes. The vehicle will be carrying a seating capacity of 8 to 24 passengers.
