In a bid to penetrate deeper into the highly demanded small car segment market in India, the leading Japanese automaker Nissan Motors has joined hands with the commercial vehicle manufacturer, Ashok Leyland to roll out an entry-level car by the year 2014.

The rivalry intensifying small car is being currently developed by Ashok Leyland and will strategically hit the Indian auto market at a highly competitive price coupled with innovative attributes.

The revelation of the launch of this small segment car was made at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, where Mr. Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President, Nissan Motors, commented that, "We are working on multiple options of price-entry vehicles for the Indian market. One of them is being developed with engineering department of Ashok Leyland. This car will be launched around 2014."

The joint venture of the Nissan Motors and Ashok Leyland in India was earlier directed towards the manufacturing of light commercial vehicles only but the alliance is looking forward to enter the passenger car segment with the introduction of this new entry level car.

The Japanese auto manufacturer has however not disclosed the engine specifications and the technicalities of this car as it is still under development process in terms of design and feasibility.

The resultant car of this joint venture will be priced much below than the Nissan Micra that fetches a price between Rs 4.14 lakhs and Rs 6.26 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is expected that this small car will be priced in the range of Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 4 lakhs.
