Volkswagen’s iconic car the Beetle is all set to GO electric soon. The ‘Bug’, which is available in petrol and diesel engine options, has been a volume generator for the German car manufacturer. The electric Beetle might relate straight to the original car since its being considered with its powertrain at the back powering the rear wheels. The car would complement the new Volkswagen Microbus, based on the ID Buzz Concept shown early this year at the Detroit auto show. Although the iconic bug might go green, it will still be more fun.
With VW already concentrating on the electric future, the MEB platform, VW's dedicated electric car architecture, seems poised to rebirth multiple iconic cars from the brand's past. VW confirmed MEB will support 15 electric cars, with five of them slated for Volkswagen. The brand already confirmed the ID hatchback for Europe and it showed the ID Crozz Concept as a potential precursor to an all-electric crossover.
