Following the success of it’s entirely new 90 Series range (XC90 and S90), Volvo is now working on the smaller XC60 for a comprehensive revamp. The crossover in fact will receive a generation change, as seen in these spy pictures.

Despite all the camouflage, one can spot bits of the new headlights and the vertical taillights. What’s also apparent is the XC90-like profile for the new XC60 which will appeal to a wider set of buyers.

Like the exterior, the interior of the XC60 will be inspired by the minimalistic and classy lines of the XC90 and the S90. The upright centre display will feature in the new XC60 as well. Being a Volvo, the new XC60 is likely to become one of the safest cars in its segment thanks to new active safety features including the acclaimed IntelliSafe. The new XC60 is expected to drive itself in city traffic or up to certain speeds.

The new XC60 will be based on the same SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform as the new XC90 and the S90. The engine line-up, as a result, will consist of familiar turbocharged three and four-cylinder engines exclusively. Volvo will be targeting the BMW X3 and the recently unveiled latest-gen Audi Q5 with the next-gen XC60.
