Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is working on an all-new generation Innova and Fortuner SUV. The new Innova MPV has been spotted several times during its test rounds in India as well as Thailand. If media reports are to be believed, the company will unveil the new generation Innova in 2015 while the launch will take place in the year 2016.

Mr. Michinobu Sugata, president, Toyota Motor Philippines Corp (TMPC) said that the company is aiming to spend around 2 billion pesos to strengthen parts localization of the upcoming Innova MPV. 50 per cent of the investment will be spending in localization of pressed parts. Currently, the company imported 30 per cent of the pressed body parts from Thailand; however, the company is aiming to further increase localization to achieve competitive pricing.

The next generation Innova is also expected to get Toyota’s new family of diesel engines. Moreover, the company will also introduce the diesel automatic variant of the MPV. The new MPV will be based on the all new platform christened as Toyota New Global Architecture. The same platform will also underpin the Fortuner SUV. This architecture will allow the company to share components among cars which make them price competitive.

The next generation Toyota Innova is likely to be more premium than the current model. The new model is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 10-15 lakh. It will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy.
