      Next-Gen Maruti Swift coming in 2016-17; new small car in works

      Japanese car manufacturer, Suzuki is working on a series of new mass market products that will be launched in next 2-3 years. If media reports are to be believed, the company is targeting A, B and C segments. Suzuki has already unveiled the new Vitara compact SUV, which is speculated to come India by 2017-18. Adding to it, the next generation Swift hatchback is also on cards. The next-gen Swift is expected to go on sale in the Indian car market by 2016-17.

      Maruti Suzuki is currently gearing up for the launch of SX4 S-Cross crossover, which will go on sale in the country in January, 2015. A sub-4 metre sub-compact SUV, dubbed as YBA, is likely to be launched in the first quarter, 2016. The sub-compact SUV is based on the XA-Alpha concept shown at the 2012 Delhi Motor Show and will rival against the likes of Ford EcoSport and upcoming cars from Volkswagen, Honda, Tata and Mahindra.

      Interestingly, Suzuki is also working on an all-new A-segment car, which is is expected to make its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, while the European launch could take place in the mid-2016. Spotted several times in India and on European roads, the YRA premium hatchback will also be the part of Suzuki’s global product portfolio. This model is likely to be sold under Baleno badge, and will rival against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia.

      The company is also working on an all-new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is speculated to power the next generation Swift and YRA premium hatchback.
