Pictures of the next generation Fiato Punto have surfaced ahead of its official launch in 2017. The test mule codenamed X6H, is expected to be unveiled by the end of this year.

In terms of design, the new Punto gets a sportier stance. The car will sport a tweaked grille that blends neatly with sharper headlamps. The test mules featured regular steel rims as well as five triple spoke alloy wheel design. However, the production ready model is expected to get the alloy wheel as standard. The bumpers are bigger and bolder than the current generation. At the rear the new Punto gets bigger and sharper taillights that gives it a new age styling.

To make things more interesting, the new Fiat Punto will get a new steering wheel, like the one seen on the Jeep Renegade. The interiors also get a new look. In terms of features, the new Punto might get UConnect infotainment system and a city drive mode. Fiat will be using the X6H platform for developing wide range of models including an all-new SUV and a Punto-based sedan which is likely to be called the Linea once again.

The new Fiat Punto is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre petro engine which generates around 100bhp of power and a 1.8-litre E-Torq petrol engine. It is also believed that the Europe bound model will get 0.9-litre TwinAir turbo-petrol engine. The car will be offered in manual and automatic transmission options. The car is expected to be offered with all modern safety features including airbags and ABS with EBD.

Except for minor upgrades, the current model is over 10 years and in need of a generational change.
