BMW is slated to arm the next generation i8 with three electric motors which will use a battery that’s good for 482km on a charge. The surprise element here is that the car is expected to showcase a tremendous advancement in power delivery.

Next gen BMW i8 speculated to carry three electric motors

So what exactly are we talking about here? Reports claim that BMW is testing a fully electric prototype of the i8 that will serve as the second-generation of this car. Now each of these three prototype motors that go into the car is capable of 268bhp, so we’re talking about a total power output of over 800bhp. That’s a lot, especially when you factor that the current car comes with 357bhp, and is due to get 420bhp in the 2017 facelift.

It doesn’t end here. There are also rumours that two of the electric motors could be used on the rear axle, and the third could end up in the front, making it an all-wheel drive. Sources also add that the car could come with rear axle steering. BMW’s next gen i8 has still some more time before it makes it to the markets abroad post 2020. Stay tuned for more information on this.
