Mumbai's Tote on the Turf, on 9th of August, will be the venue for what has been one of the most talked about events in the Indian auto industry in recent times. The new Octavia sedan is scheduled to be unveiled by Czech-based auto maker Skoda, which is owned by the Volkswagen Group. In recent times, many test mules of the new Skoda Octavia have been spotted doing rounds in the country. Industry experts feel that it is not long before the Skoda Octavia hits showrooms as the company will not let the hype to die down. It must be noted that the poster released by the firm included an animated photograph of the new car and a punchline - 'The Legend is Back'.

The introduction of new Octavia is being considered critical to the cause of Skoda India. Since their entry in the Indian car market over a decade ago, the Czech-based firm has not been able to make any sort of substantial ground. The previous generations of the Octavia have been, perhaps, the most successful cars introduced by Skoda. Understandably, Skoda would be hoping to ride on the good business done by previous versions. Already on sale in European markets, the new Skoda Octavia is based on Volkswagen's Modularer Querbaukasten (MQB) platform, which uses a matrix of components to design cars that are efficient, safe and have controlled emissions. The MQB platform has received worldwide acclaim and has received good reviews from critics.

Although no official confirmation has been made, several speculations have surfaced regarding the same. It is expected that there will be two engine options for the new Skoda Octavia, one diesel and one petrol. The petrol version of the new Octavia is going to be equipped with a 1.8-litre TSI engine whereas the diesel variant will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre TDI powertrain. If rumours are to be believed, the new Skoda Octavia will be introduced alongside the existing Laura, which might be replaced by an entry level variant of the former.

The event is slated to attract a lot of attention from the media and people from the industry. With festive season beckoning, it is only logical that the new Skoda Octavia will attract a number of buyers. The new Skoda Octavia will compete with the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis, Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze, Renault Fluence and Hyundai Elantra.
