Hyundai Motors India Limited is ready to launch a new face lifted model of its popular car, Santro by end 2009. HMIL is India’s second largest car manufacturer and largest car exporter. It had launched its Santro model nearly a decade ago and has constantly launched newer versions of its one of the most successful models. It had decided to phase out Santro after the launch of Hyundai i10 but now it intends to bring a newer version for Hyundai customers in India.

The company had continued to sell Santro on account of good response and a newer model will further lend a boost to its sales figures in the country. Further details of the new additions are yet not available but it is expected that the new model will come with only cosmetic changes. The existing Santro engine shall continue to power the newer model as well. So far Hyundai has sold 984, 418 models in India since its launch in India in September 1998.

Hyundai has also launched i20 model in India and has received a tremendous response to its premium hatchback model. Both i10 and i20 continue to run a success story for the company. Recently, the company has been facing labour unrest problems at its Chennai plant where the labour had gone on 18 days strike. The strike has recently ended after the intervention of the Labour Commissioner. Hyundai is also contemplating its options to shift its production base of i20 from India and set up another plant somewhere in Europe. It shall also continue to manufacture the model in India as well.
