Fiat India is planning to introduce the CNG variant of its small car model Punto in India. The company is expected to bring the model to the Indian market in the Active Variant only It has not specified the timeline of the launch or its final details. The model was displayed earlier at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010 in January this year.
Fiat is also empowering its sedan model and will bring the new Linea T-Jet Petrol by September this year. The new model is expected to be powered by 1.4L engine that is capable of producing power of 120hp to yield better fuel economy. The model is expected to be priced at Rs. 10 lakh and above. The new Fiat Linea T-Jet petrol model has been caught testing around Pune before bringing it to the Indian markets.
Fiat is promoting Linea as its new powerful sedan in the international markets as well. However, the sedan model is being built in Russia and not being exported from the Indian shores like many popular small cars. Russian automaker Sollers has announced that it will start building the model from August or September which will have up to 35 percent of localisation. The Russia-market Linea will probably be equipped with 1.4-liter gasoline engines making 77 and 120 horsepower, as well as a 1.3-liter turbodiesel. Russia, India, and China are few of the fastest emerging car markets and Auto makers have trained their eyes equivocally on all of them.
