Porsche has been actively testing the next 911. Prototypes of this iconic sports car have been spotted undergoing cold weather testing at the Nurburgring race track in Germany.

The existing 911 was updated in 2015 at a time when Porsche unleashed its new range of turbocharged engines. This generation, however, was first introduced back in 2011. Meanwhile, the next 911 will be built on a new modular platform and feature a wider range of powertrains. This may also be expected to include its first ever hybrid set-up. While Porsche is working on a pure-electric production version Mission E for a 2020 debut, other cars in its range – such as the new Panamera and this all-new 911 – will bolster their engines with electric power to boost both performance and efficiency.

Porsche's chairman, Oliver Blume, recently said that the 911 is a likely candidate for hybrid power too. Porsche is expected to unveil the new 911 range in the first half of 2018. Naturally, the new 911 will spawn hardcore GT3, GT3 RS and Turbo models as well.
