This year's Frankfurt Motor Show witnessed the unveiling of new Nissan X-Trail. Known as the Rogue in US, this seven-seater car will be offered in both the options, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The front wheel drive variant would be treated as standard, in order to target mass segment buyers. Reportedly, the upcoming Nissan X-Trail will work on the platform of Common Modular Family (CMF) architecture, which would soon be implemented in the upcoming Nissan-Renault vehicles. It is speculated that the upgraded version of X-Trail would be introduced by 2014 end or beginning of 2015.

Sources close to the development process have revealed that the new Nissan X-Trail will come packed with additional features, better riding abilities and cosmetic changes. Characteristic D-pillar shape and structured headlamps with LED daytime running lights are certain new features added in the latest model of X-Trail. Interiors are also expected to be enhanced with piano black and geometric metallic finishes, accompanies with loads of chrome work. Complete leather upholstery with stitches in contrast is also anticipated in the upcoming model.

It is not just the interiors or exteriors that have been improvised on, as the technical specifications will also witness a few changes, offering better driving pleasure to the driver. The car will come equipped with an upgraded version of current X-Trail’s 2.0-litre diesel engine with an option of recently developed Xtronic CVT gearbox. Industry experts are of a view that the new model looks trendier and sportier; however, this has not affected its off-road abilities. The latest Nissan X-Trail performs smoothly off-road, even with the optional four-wheel drive system.

Additional features anticipated to be packed within the new generation X-Trail are NissanConnect in-car navigation, information and entertainment system for convenience of driver and the passengers. Interestingly, NissanConnect helps connect smart phone with a projected range of applications covering music, social networking and entertainment with a large 7-inch colour touch screen. The satellite navigation system helps integrate with Google so as to get information about a host of useful information, right from weather forecasts to the location of fuel stations, hotels, restaurants and other points of interest. This advanced infotainment system offers facilities like Bluetooth audio streaming, mobile phone integration and is also compatible with AUX-in and USB slots. Another key highlight of this model is send-to-car function, which facilitates the drivers to plan a trip at home and pass it onto their in-car NissanConnect system with just a simple click. Industry experts are of a strong belief that such features would help the Japanese auto maker in luring customers towards this SUV in a better manner.

The company has put in a lot of efforts on decreasing the weight wherever possible and has even tried out a tailgate, largely made of plastic so as to keep the vehicle’s weight at the lowest level for better efficiency and performance. The upcoming model of X-Trail will come equipped with the company’s All Mode 4x4i electronic four-wheel drive system as per which the driver can choose among the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options.
