With the launch of a new Micra, Nissan has come of age and has given its iconic model a totally refreshed look with angular front headlamps, along with pepped up interiors. Newly packaged Micra model running on petrol mode will continue to sell as the Active XE variant at a price tag of Rs. 3.50 lakh. With Micra already having bulk presence on Indian roads, the Nissan India President Kenichiro Yomura now has more ambitious plans. According to sources close to the development, the newly launched model is targeting to road around 2,500 units monthly.

Company has done quite bit of homework with the release of this upgraded version which is available for all to see and judge. For a start, the 2013 version of Micra comes loaded with an optional X-tronic CVT gearbox which will give a mileage of 19.34 kmpl. Making driver airbag as a standard across all the Micra variants is also something that company has plans for with dual airbag only in top of the line models.

From the reports, it is apparent that the new Micra reflects a totally new look with the angular headlamps, a wider front grille having nice chrome plated inserts, new front bumper and other subtle cosmetic add-ons. Tail lights are now LED based and alloy wheels now come as a standard part of the refined package. Brighter fabrics, quality plastics at interiors and a piano black panel on the central main console that will house the restyled air vents and a-din stereo are the key highlights of the model.

“Our strategy in launching new Micra, is to cut across the entire hatchback segment and broadbase our offering to a wider target audience. We will also be using some non-conventional forms of media to maximise product visibility and increase sales,” adds the company President Yomura. The global sales of Micra exceed 6.5 million units. New Nissan Micra carries this legacy forward and has been updated to meet the different tastes and needs of customers in both developed markets and growing markets like India. Currently, prices of the Nissan Micra start at Rs. 4.30 lakh and ranges to Rs. 6.07 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the petrol and diesel variants, respectively.
